Various rankings show that our Department of Economics is one of the leaders in Europe in terms of research and teaching. Our profile is enhanced by a high level of activity by our departmental members in economic policy consulting. We provide important, high-quality consulting services for economic policy decision makers and contribute to current public discussions on economic policy where these relate to our core competences.
General information
The 16 lecturers in our department cover the entire field of economics. The professors and their staff are each responsible for institutes and faculties which operate as autonomous businesses and have close ties to the University. Currently, a total of 12 assistant professors supplement the research profile of the Department of Economics. In addition, countless lecturers, visiting professors and (habilitated) lecturers are responsible for the department, and these particularly enrich the courses on offer.
The Department of Economics is headed by a Dean. Since the Fall Semester 2017 this has been Prof. Dr. Reto Föllmi.
We offer our own course programmes at all academic levels (Bachelor, Master, and PhD) and are additionally represented by our teaching staff in many other programmes of the HSG. Our education in Economics is an important cornerstone of the University.
